⚔️ Challenge

Our task was to design an app for the health and wellness industry. We considered several categories such as physical activity tracking, sleep quality tracking, diet and nutrition assistance, and psychiatric/behavioral modification assistance. We chose to focus on the psychiatric/behavioral modification assistance category, specifically targeting anxiety disorder.

This project involved a comprehensive UX design process, utilizing essential UX skills.

RESEARCH INSIGHTS

To understand the experiences of individuals dealing with anxiety, we conducted a survey with 15 participants. The findings revealed that 40% reported experiencing anxiety, another 40% were uncertain about their anxiety levels, and 20% did not experience anxiety at all.

We supplemented our survey with interviews with two psychologists, identifying common anxiety symptoms, such as:

  • Restlessness

  • Worry

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Heart palpitations

  • Panic attacks

Our research highlighted that individuals cope with anxiety in various ways, often feeling isolated while seeking activities or content for support.

We created user personas, empathy maps, and user journeys to deepen our understanding of our audience. This process allowed us to articulate our "How Might We" (HMW) statements and refine our problem statement.

USER-CENTERED DESIGN

Our goal was to develop an app that provides users with quick and discreet access to personalized tools and content for managing anxiety. Using the MoSCoW method, we prioritized the following features:

  1. Breathing exercises

  2. Self-notes

  3. Minimal and simple user interface

  4. Tracking dashboard

  5. Audio content

  6. SOS button (a feature that provides a fake call for discreet exits)

SOLUTION

DESIGN PROCESS

We mapped out a site structure and user flows, followed by the creation of a mid-fidelity prototype. During two rounds of testing on Maze, we discovered users found the "mood" button icon confusing. After making adjustments based on feedback, we conducted a second test that yielded positive results.

PROTOTYPE

We undertook this project to assist people in managing, reducing, or overcoming anxiety with the long-term goal of improving their quality of life while respecting each individual's unique approach to dealing with their challenges. It is also important to acknowledge that therapy and professional help are irreplaceable.

We had a great time working on this project! It took us two weeks to complete, and even though we encountered some challenges, our team members really showed their skills and talents in overcoming them. With everyone's support, we managed to successfully finish the project.
