⚔️ Challenge
Design a responsive online platform for a magazine that meets the specific needs and goals of a chosen user persona.
To understand the motivations behind why people engage with online platforms, we conducted interviews and distributed online surveys. Our target audience included ambitious individuals who:
Own their own businesses
Are interested in technology and business
Seek to enhance their professional skills
By analyzing the insights from these research methods, we gained a deeper understanding of user motivations and contexts.
RESEARCH
From our research, we crafted a user persona and developed a user journey. Using an affinity diagram, we sorted through the data, identifying patterns such as:
Many participants read to educate themselves.
Users tend to read during work breaks and seek personalized content.
We created an empathy map to further explore user pain points, which included:
Difficulty finding relevant content
Annoyance from excessive ads, pop-ups, and paywalls
Desire for customization based on interests
Additionally, we noted a lack of female representation on technology and business-focused websites, which informed our "How Might We" (HMW) statements.
EMPATHY
Each team member created low-fidelity sketches of their ideas, which we then merged and enhanced collaboratively. We utilized the MoSCoW method to prioritize compelling features, ensuring our design addressed user needs effectively.
IDEATION
We developed a user flow diagram illustrating the feature of selecting interests to view personalized content. We gathered references and created a mood board defining colors and typography to establish a cohesive design system.

FINAL DESIGN
Desktop
Tablet
Mobile
We have completed the Hi-Fi designs for a user flow that allows users to select tags based on their interests to view articles related to those tags. This optimizes time and provides content referencing women and the LGBTQIA+ community, making the user feel better represented.
Being a part of this project was fascinating. I learned more about online readers' frustrations and worked with the team to find a solution that provides pleasant reading experiences and empowers our target audience.
